Flexibility of use and simplicity of design combine to make the GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun) an outstandingly effective and reliable weapon.

The Manroy GPMG is a gas operated, belt fed machine gun. By adjusting a gas regulator the rate of fire may be set between 650 and 1000 rounds per minute. The barrel is air cooled and chrome plated to ensure long life. It may be changed in a matter of seconds under battle conditions. Safety is guaranteed, the firing pin is an integral part of the breech mechanism and cannot operate prior to locking of the breech block. Operation of the GPMG is by the open bolt system, ensuring that no live cartridges are left in a hot chamber - "cook off" is therefore not possible.

The GPMG has a built-in bipod for infantry use and can be used on a Tripod for sustained fire. It can also be used on Pedestal mounts on various vehicles, boats and helicopters or mounted as coaxial armament in battle tanks and armoured vehicles.

In the infantry role the GPMG is designed to serve as either a Light Machine Gun (LMG) or as a Sustained Fire Machine Gun (SFMG). In the LMG role it is fired from a bipod, and in the SFMG mode from a tripod. The Coaxial Armament version is mounted alongside the main armament on battle tanks. The rate of fire is controlled by a gas plug which has one gas port and three compensating holes. As the gun warms up the compensating holes uncover, regulating the gases and stabilizing the rate of fire at 625-750 rounds per minute. The muzzle is fitted with a combined flash hider/fume extractor.
